Everything we want families to know before welcoming a BumblesDaxis puppy into their home — from choosing the right puppy to settling in and caring for a Dachshund for life.
Bringing a puppy home is exciting, but it is also a long-term commitment. We want prospective families to have honest, useful information so they can decide whether a Dachshund — and a BumblesDaxis puppy in particular — is right for their lifestyle.
Dachshunds are affectionate, intelligent and full of personality. They can also be determined little dogs with their own needs and quirks.
Our puppies need companionship, patience and time as they settle into family life.
Consistent, positive training helps your Dachshund develop good habits from the beginning.
Dachshunds are intelligent, lively and often wonderfully determined. Their personalities can be big.
Consider your household, routines and future plans so your puppy can be a happy part of family life.
Age-appropriate exercise, play and mental stimulation all form part of a healthy routine.
Bringing home a puppy is a commitment for their whole life, and we want families to feel ready for that.
Every puppy is treated as an individual. We pay attention to their character, confidence and developing needs while giving them a loving family environment in which to grow.
Our puppies grow up around the sights, sounds and routines of everyday home life.
Regular positive handling helps puppies become comfortable with people and everyday interaction.
We introduce suitable experiences gradually and positively as each puppy develops.
We take time to understand each puppy and their developing character.
Our aim is to build confidence through calm, appropriate and positive experiences.
We provide practical information and support so families know what to expect when their puppy comes home.
We keep our puppies' care and records up to date while they are with us and provide families with the information they need when their puppy leaves for their new home.
Our puppies receive their first vaccination at 8 weeks of age, including DHPPI and Lepto 4.
Puppies are microchipped at 8 weeks, alongside their first vaccination.
The second vaccination is usually given around four weeks later, at approximately 12 weeks of age.
Puppies are wormed and flea treated appropriately while they are in our care. We provide guidance for continuing treatment after collection.
We want families to have the opportunity to see their puppy, meet Mum and feel comfortable with the process before collection.
Viewing is by appointment. You can choose a day and time that suits you and we will always try to accommodate your visit.
You are welcome to visit more than once before collection. A second viewing is available once you have reserved a puppy.
Up to six people can attend a viewing, and children are welcome.
Mum is available to meet during viewing appointments and on collection day.
Puppies can leave for their new homes from 8 weeks onwards.
For families within 65 km, we can also discuss delivering or meeting you with your puppy.
Our puppies are currently fed Purina Pro Plan Puppy food. We recommend continuing with the same food initially, or choosing another comparable high-quality puppy food if you prefer to change their diet.
A familiar routine and food can make those first few days easier while your puppy settles into their new home.
Give your puppy regular opportunities to go outside and reward progress calmly and positively.
Young puppies need plenty of sleep. A calm, consistent routine helps them settle and feel secure.
Short, positive training sessions help build good habits while strengthening your relationship with your puppy.
Dachshunds have a distinctive long-backed shape, so we encourage families to build sensible habits from the beginning.
Support both the front and rear of your puppy when lifting them.
Avoid encouraging repeated jumping on and off furniture, particularly while your puppy is young.
Take care around stairs and consider practical ways to limit unnecessary climbing.
Keeping your Dachshund at a healthy weight is an important part of long-term care.
